Kevin recommended to me "A call to spiritual reformation" by D.A. Carson. It's pretty good for something that Kevin recommended. Just kidding. No, it's really good. It helps me to have a fresh look at pray as that of apostle Paul.

Re the posture in prayer, personally I prefer when I can to kneel (yes, even with bad knees). And it helps me to focus to vocalize my prayers. But I think there is also a role for settling into the arms of our Father, of course in faith and in reverence, but also in the most childlike trust.
Prayer is so immensely varied, and rich, and sometimes laborious. But as you say, it is the most immediate access to the most powerful and most loving person in the Universe-- what an awesome thing it is!
